Postby Gregg » Mon Jul 21, 2014 7:13 pm

Just wanted to separate these new tapes Idioteque got, out of the collection thread, for further discussion.

Image

First is "Sad Sappy Sucker (Chokin' On A Mouthful Of Lost Thoughts)", which looks to be the original SSS tape from which the 2001 album was created.

Tracklist:

B14 - Eviction Day For The Guilt
B15 - A Song
B16 - Live At Sunburst MT.
B17 - Election Day
B18 - Tip Toed

The second is called "A mouthful of lost thoughts", which could be a variation of SSS. The tracklist is unknown at the moment, as nothing was included with the tape.

Trying to cross check on here which songs are new and which are just alt titles.

Please move all discussion here.

A04 - Play Taps: has the intro for Classy Plastic Lumber (the talking part) but isn't the same song afterwards
A05 - Happy Little Ower: is Sucker Bet

I'm presuming the following we know already, but correct me if I'm wrong and he's reusing titles or lyrics:
A02 - Ugly Cassanova
A11 - Woodgrain
A14 - Old New Agers
B03 - AEIOU And Sometimes Why
B09 - Singun Chaser
B12 - Osteropithicus

As a reference, there are two versions of the cassette. One has a large white paper insert (mine), the other has a smaller yellow card insert (Pat Graham's copy).

Just finished listening to the first tape, here are my notes for the mentioned tracks:
A02 - Ugly Cassanova: Same song as the leaked version.
A04 - Play Taps: has the intro for Classy Plastic Lumber (the talking part) but isn't the same song afterwards
A05 - Happy Little Ower: is Sucker Bet
A08 - Original title was Ding, Urch, Ding, but Isaac crossed it out on Pat's copy and wrote Zoom Bean Gone.
A11 - Woodgrain: Same song as the official version.
A12 - Alone On The Shelf / The Doomsday Blimp Can't Play Ping Pong: First title used on my insert, second title used on Pat's insert. Both are lyrics from the song.
A14: Old New Agers: Same song as the official version.
B03 - AEIOU And Sometimes Why: Same as the official version. (SWY)
B09 - Singun Chaser: Same as the official version. (Sin Gun Chaser)
B12 - Osteropithicus: : Same as the official version. (Australopithecus)

All the other songs are new and unheard material!

Live in Sunburst Mt. is a track name? Doesn't Sunburst Mt. have some significance with the closing half of interstate-8? Interesting. Did Isaac live there for a while or something?

The live tracks at the end of the Interstate 8 EP are all "live in Sunburst, MT", except they're not, they were recorded live in their shed.

The "Live In Sunburst, MT." only shares the name with the section off the Interstate 8 EP, it's a completely separate song. It has piano too!

Alright, here's the tracklist for Mouthful:
A01 - Sugar In My Coffeeo
A02 - Happy Little Ower
A03 - Ding, Urch, Ding / Zoom Bean Gone
A04 - Woodgrain
A05 - Old New Agers
A06 - Rolloff
A07 - Jumpsuit Or Jumpship
A08 - AEIOU And Sometimes Why
A09 - In Like Roses
A10 - Kirchies Song

It seems to be an abridged version of SSS, less songs but still in the same order. The B side is nothing but noise, it sounds like someone walking around with a portable tape deck with the record option on. Then again, these tapes were taken from dumpsters before being record over, so that doesn't surprise me. :p

By the way, the songs from the collection "Demos Given To Chris Early By Eric Judy" are all taken from tapes.
Feelings = Sad Sorta Angry (SSS)
Ugly Casanova = Ugly Cassanova (SSS)
This is Real Life = Inanimate Know-How (SSS)
I Say So = Play Taps (The part after the talking) (SSS)
Instrumental = As On, Vandetta And Problem (UBF)

Thanks. That's good to know and will fill in a lot of gaps. Any chance "Reason" is on there as well?

BTW Idioteque, I'm probably going to be compiling a news post on this in a few days as I clean up data based on this information.

What was your source for this? Did you just get it off ebay? You also mentioned Pat Graham's insert, is that something that was included, or is my memory failing and Pat posted a photo of the tracklisting once?

Some more clarification - my friend pointed out "This Is Real Life" is a lot longer on the demos collection, this is because it's two songs in one! Specifically:
Feelings = Sad Sorta Angry (SSS)
Ugly Casanova = Ugly Cassanova (SSS)
This is Real Life = Inanimate Know-How (SSS) + Dont Know Direction (SSS)
I Say So = Play Taps (The part after the talking) (SSS)
"Instrumental" (although I'm sure it's supposed to be called "Reason") = As On, Vandetta And Problem (UBF)

The tracks available for download on Night on the Sun has 6 tracks, with the last being "Instrumental", although I think it was meant to be called "Reason", because it's actually "As On, Vandetta And Problem" from UBF, and its lyrics use the word reason.

Gregg, if you have an email I can contact you by, please let me know. I can fill you in on where I got it from and other cool info. :)

The I8 SMTP is fucked at the moment, so I can't reply to emails, and I've been too busy to fix it. Can you just PM me then.
