So Mister Heavenly have just announced some tour dates, which coincide with the four upcoming Modest Mouse dates. So I guess Joe Plummer will be busy with MH, leaving just Jeremiah on the drums for these shows, unless they get someone to fill in for Joe. I honestly think it would be pretty interesting to see how they'd do the newer songs with just one drummer. Might give Jeremiah a chance to stand out a bit more again.

^yeah, according to Jim, Isaac's still figuring out "who he wants to record the record with." I'm not hoping for a return to the old sounds, but how cool would it be if MM became a three or four piece again?

Whoa! I like Joe's work a lot, but maybe getting to see JG do it himself again? Badass. I bet the drum tech guy winds up doing percussion though, like he did at Outside Lands in '09.

Don't get me wrong, JP is an awesome drummer. His drumming on the Mister Heavenly album is incredible. But I'm interested to see how the sound of the songs would change if JG was writing all the drum parts again.

Yeah. It's weird because they sound so good together, but holy shit was the drumming outstanding when it was just Jeremiah. Guess I'll see what they do on Thursday, I am SO excited. New songs? Old songs?

If you're going, could you write the setlsit down? And I know it could be hard, but record any new songs?

I'll see what I can do. My phone isn't great for sound recording though... :( And as for these random dates before a festival, I wonder if they're doing these partly to get some experience playing live without one of their members? These were last minute dates, relatively speaking. I don't know if they coincided with Mr. Heavenly's tour date announcements though.

Dude, where the hell is Eric?? He missed the Australian dates too, I hope this doesn't mean he's left the band or anything.

No worries--he's skipped tours before. He has a family, so I imagine he just wants to spend some time with them before recording/touring on the new album. It must be hard to be a dad and a rock star.

Isaac's too smart to let Eric go--his basslines really anchor their songs.

^ Pretty much that. Both Jim and Joe have stated in recent interviews that Jeremiah, Eric, and Isaac are still at the core of the band, and most of the songwriting goes on between those three. Eric's got a family, so I'm sure at times that takes priority, especially when the band just seems to be doing a few one-off shows like this. I'm sure whenever they put out some new material and do a full tour, Eric will be back.

Wow, awesome set. Congrats on catching such a great show!

Now it looks like I might have to eat my words about Eric...maybe that's why the new album is taking so long. Hell, Good News only took 3-4 years, even after being rebooted a couple times.
