The Lonesome Crowded West song elimination: Final Round

Postby Gregg » Wed Sep 23, 2015 6:31 am

Remember you're now voting for the track you want to win / like / listen to the most.

The rules:

1. You are voting for the song you like / listen to the least on the album.
2. You have 48 hours to cast your vote for a song. You can change you vote at any point during those 48 hours.
3. In the event of a tie, there will be a special tie breaker round between those songs over 24 hours. In the event that the tie breaker round ends in a tie, we will just end the round as such.
4. In the final round you are voting for the song you like / listen to the most on the album.

Results:

3. Trailer Trash
4. Doin' The Cockroach
5. Styrofoam Boots / It's All Nice On Ice, Alright
6. Heart Cooks Brain
7. Bankrupt On Selling
8. Trucker's Atlas
9. Polar Opposites
10. Out Of Gas
11. Convenient Parking
12. Lounge (Closing Time)
13. Shit Luck
14. Long Distance Drunk
15. Jesus Christ Was An Only Child

I had these two making it to the final round! Very tough choice of course, but after listening to each song intently I was able to settle on one over the other. [/secret ballot]

Let's take a moment to appreciate what a great song Cowboy Dan is, regardless of how the voting turns out. I can vividly remember getting chills the first time I heard that tempo change. Easily in my top 5 song list of all time.

Yep, I love how you can recognize Cowboy Dan off one note at live shows too. It and Trailer Trash were my final two. Combine with Doin' The Cockroach and I can't name a better three song run on any album.

Not sure I agree with "Teeth" having been in the final two, and a bit surprised to see it win. I think there are at least 2-3 songs that are just a bit stronger. Oh well, majority rules.

Final Results:

1. Teeth Like God's Shoeshine
2. Cowboy Dan
3. Trailer Trash
4. Doin' The Cockroach
5. Styrofoam Boots / It's All Nice On Ice, Alright
6. Heart Cooks Brain
7. Bankrupt On Selling
8. Trucker's Atlas
9. Polar Opposites
10. Out Of Gas
11. Convenient Parking
12. Lounge (Closing Time)
13. Shit Luck
14. Long Distance Drunk
15. Jesus Christ Was An Only Child

I would put Cowboy Dan ahead of Teeth by a pretty big margin. Just look at some of the truly epic live transformations that song has gotten.

It's interesting to imagine the final results as an alternative track-list to the album. The songs do largely go from best to worst but as far as listening goes, I don't think there's a worse order you could arrange them in.
